guidence, gyro or compass?

I am building a r/c lawn mower and want to mow straight lines. I
have tried an r/c tail lock, or heading hold gyro- futaba 401& a
jr500t they both drift to much over period of travel.
Has anyone used an electronic compass with any sucess? If so what
is the accuracy and what brand. thank`s

I to am interested in building such a device/tool/labor saver. Do you have
