dtmf decode program help

HI I have a need to make a multi-digit, multi function dtmf decoder.
I think you need to use the digit valid line to strobe in the binary
digit info and put it into ram. You then need to compare this with
fixed values to get your result. Can anyone tell me if i'm on the
right track and if there is a program out there I can look at to get
ideas.

i know its not a BS program/project, but heres a project i made some years
ago with a 8870 DTMF decoder.
