Turbo timer

I was wondering if anyone has ever attempted to write a program to
make a turbo timer for a car. For anyone who does not know what they
are I will explain....When you have a car with a turbocharger on it,
it is good for the car and the turbo to leave your car running for a
few minutes before you shut it off so the oil has time to cool.
Basically when you turn your key off the car stays running for 3
minutes then shuts off so you dont have to sit in your car and wait.
They cost somewhere around 100-150 bucks I think. Im pretty sure it
would be easy to make a program and interface it to get the job
done. Im trying to figure out how to do this for my friend who has a
93 I believe Mitsubishi Eclipse. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!!!

i have a blitz turbo timer on my 97 talon awd. you would need some
sort of temp sensor for the oil in the turbo. on my timer, the
amount of time that the car runs is based on how hot the oil is in
the turbo. if you run your car hard, then it will run longer. you
would have to find out which wires going to your cars computer come
from the ignition and such, so that you could place the stamp
between the ignition switch, the computer, and main relay probably.
maybe that will help clear some stuff up for the people that are
    good at programming the stamp.

my turbo timer runs on boost pressure and time, for example a low
average boost pressure runs the car a short period of time after the
key is removed while a higher boost will run the car longer

Many moons ago, on an '84 Dodge Colt Turbo, I had a 5-minute timer wired
in to allow the turbo time to cool down. Was made from a 555 timer and
the appropriate resistor / capacitor selection. Had a momentary switch
that turned on the timer, which in turn turned on a relay that kept the
ignition circuit on. The key was turned off and removed and the car kept
    running.

Definitely an interesting Idea. I have toyed with the idea, but my stamp
    skills are near nill.
I also would not be discouraged by the comments, which I think weren't meant
in that way, saying that you need a sensor for this, and to measure the boost,
and time, and all that. True, if the car was run in traffic, and didn't
build a lot of boost, and wasn't on boost for very long, the car needs less time

to cool down, but a simple timer that would keep the car running for 3 minutes
or so, would be more then adequate. Yes, it might be overkill sometimes, but
then sometimes, it would be just right. I would rather err on the side of
overkill, then under. And, the complexity drops tremendously if you don't have
to monitor boost pressure, time, and oil temp.
