communicate over 1000V cable

Hello,
I have an application where two stamps (stampPLC's) need to
communicate over a 1000V 3-phase cable. Does anyone know of a modem
that will do this? This installation is in an underground coal mine
without line of sight which prohibits me from using any kind of
wireless.

Thanks,
Heath

Every so often this forum gets a question
like this. Typically the question has very
little detail -- at least you've told us
what you want to do, and where you want to
do it, and what you want to do it with.

I'm sure you'll get a few responses that
basically say "EEEK! 1000 Volts!? What
do you think you're doing!? Careful,
people get killed this way, and things
can literally BLOW UP!". And all these
things ARE TRUE, so you should be careful.

Hopefully, those people can read this post
and not have to say those things now.

    Since you've asked about using a power-line
modem, and not a capacitor, AND you're using
StampPLC's, I'm going to assume you know
how to be careful around this stuff.

We (collectively) have used the X10 stuff
a lot for home control, but that's 110V AC
two-phase. I should hope there is some
kind of off-the-shelf power-line modem for
this application -- but I don't know of it
myself. I'm just trying to prevent a
    forum-storm of responses.

Thanks for the response. I work for a mining company and we are very
aware of the potential electrical hazards of 1000V and greater. We
have two continuous mining machines ("miners") that need to
communicate with each other so they each know the status of the
other. The manufacturer has developed a system that basically says
if the other machine is running or not, but is extremely expensive.
There system works over the power leads so I believe it can be done.
If anyone has any experience working with power modems, please let me
    know.
    Thanks,
    Heath
