I bought one after trying a Belkin on my new Sony machine. The Belkin
didn't work on any of my serial critters (Garmin 12/Topo!, Casio Watch
IR interface, Yaesu VX5 ham radio, and the Basic Stamp). The BAFO
works on all of them.
Yes, I'm very fond of the Keyspan devices.
If you buy them, make sure you don't go for
the 'cheap' PDA versions -- none of them
have the handshake lines the Stamp needs.
The Parallax sold 'BAFO' units work well.

Just for my 2 cents, we use a lot of Edgeport adapters around here. They are
expensive and made for commercial use but you can sometimes pick them up
cheap on eBay. Great driver support and they work with nearly everything
we've tried them with. I have one that has 4 ports and another that has 2
ports plus a printer port. At one time I had both of these on one machine
that had 4 internal ports (2 on motherboard and 2 on a PCI card for a total
of 10 COM ports (and yes I needed most of them for a particular project).

I use the Keyspan USA-19 also. It works on my Toshiba 2805 laptop, with
Stamps as well as Industrial PLC's and Touch Screen Programming ports.

I have used the one from RadioShack with success.
Keep in mind however that some DOS programs will only work with a "standard com
port"
