Hi guys.... Maybe you can steer me in the right direction. I would like to
use a BS-2 Sx to monitor 16 switches (N.O). I would like to be able to print
to a printer depending on what switch change state, with the date and the time.

thank you for ur help and time

You can daisy-chain two 74HC165s for 16 digital inputs using just three
Stamp pins. Our book, StampWorks, shows how.

    1. Use the 74HCT595 to read the switches.
    2. Use a Dallas 1302 chip to keep the time.
    3. Use a 74HCT164 ser to parallel chip to
    implement the printer interface.
3B. Easier: Use an RS-232 based printer.

The 74HC595 is an output device -- use the 74HC165 for inputs.

Is there an applications sheet that shows how to use the 74HCT165?

I searched the Parallax site and couldn't find all the applications
    sheets.

Yes. Download our StampWorks books. It shows how to use and
    daisy-chaing the 74x165.
