Optascope problems

At the recommendation of Parallax I bought some time ago a OPTAscope.
I had a nagging bug with unit since day one.
the display freezes once a while and nothing I do solves the problem.
After many requests for help from those people, six months ago they
promised to replace the unit.
Up to this day the only the answers I get from them are only excuses
and promises that will send the a new unit.
I hope any one thinking in buying this product think twice.

and had a very simple question. Several emails to Parallax and the
manufacturer, but no replies. I am too busy with other things to chase
after this, but it has not been a good experience.

Because of this, I would like to eliminate the bug in mine.

Often times I'd forget to adjust the trigger level and the display
would freeze because it was not triggering.
Other than that, I've had no real other issues, besides the fact it
has a pretty low input impedance for scope, but it isn't an issue
very often.

If you sent us an e-mail our technical support team should have
replied in a timely fashion. If you can forward your last message to
them I will track down why we didn't close the loop. My e-mail is
kgracey@p....
This is the first time I've heard of the screen freezing. Having
worked with OPTAscope a whole bunch during the preparation of our
Understanding Signals text I gained a lot of confidence in this tool.
I had a similar problem of a blank screen but the software was still
functional. The problem was that I had my trigger set on single
acquisition and the trigger level was set improperly.
If the OPTAscope software seemed to lockup, then it might be a
problem with the USB driver. In this case, it would be best to
unstall the OPTAscope and download the latest software from
http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28119 and reinstall the
driver along the way. There were some changes along the way to
improve the drivers.
And if this fails you can return it for a full refund. Contact me for
an RMA number if you want to pursue this option.
Sincerely,
Ken Gracey

I was one of the original purchasers and at the time the software
was unusable to anyone who has their computer set to use Large
Fonts. Doug from Optimum Designs was very responsive, and instead of
telling me that they don't support Large Fonts (ah hem, Parallax),
he immediately put his programmer to work to fix the problem.

Thanks for your interest. I don't archive every email, but have found some
of them. I'll send them to you off-list.
