Defining custom symbols on Serial LCD

i have a serial LCD similar to Scott Edwards' LCD. they take the same
programming instructions. i was wondering if this was the correct format to
create custom characters on the LCD.
SEROUT 0,N9600,[noparse][[/noparse]254,88,0,0,0,28,4,21,14,4]
assuming that the data going into the LCD in on I/O 0.
