Hi all,
I have just put some pictures of my Wine-thermometer project on this
website.
The idea is that an important (the most important??) factor to enjoy
drinking a good wine is the temperature it is served at.
This little thing, based on a BS2, can meaure the temperature of
liquids between 4 and 60 degree C with an accuracy of 0.2 C and it is
able to take a temperature reading within 2 seconds. So it is very
accurate and the resonse is very fast and it also remembers the last
reading. You put the sensor into the wine (or coffee as you like),
push and release a button and there you are!
Other features are a LCD display with backlight (if you drink a good
wine there will not be much light most of the time :-) and a built in
powersaving which switches off the display light if the system is not
used for some time. There is also an energy counter built in which
calculates the amount of energy left in the battery.
We tried this thermoeter at home and in some restaurants. Especially
in restaurants here in Holland white wines are served at 6 to 7
degree C which is definately much too cold. But, taking into account
the miserable quality of the restaurantwine, it is probably the only
way to drink this kind of wine at all !!!!
In our experiments at home we discovered that the taste of wines
changes strongly with temperaturs and that some white wines are good
at about 12 to 13 degrees while others start living at 14 to 15
degrees.
So, now we are able to drink and enjoy our wines on a solid scientific
besis, thanks to Parallax!
