Ball Bearing/Ball Caster

Hi,

I'm building a soccer robot and I'm up to designing the body of it.
Well, I'm planning on using two wheels and a ball bearing (in some
sort of a socket so it can freely move, I guess you could call it a
ball caster). I'm just wondering if any of you know where I could
get the ball caster from? I know they exist but I can't for
the life of me find them. Does anyone know of any Australian
suppliers preferably?

Any help is much appreciated...

Thanks
James

    www.kronosrobotics.com has some, I believe.
You can contact them for where they get them.

What you're looking for is a type of ball transfer. (There are two
types of Ball caster. One you find on furniture but ball transfer is
what you described.) Try this site, it has an Australian address:
    http://www.activelifting.com.au/lemcol-whltrkball.html
Not sure if they sell in small quantities. You can also try :
    http://www.active-robots.com/products/accessories/robot-wheels.shtml
They also have the Omni-Wheel that operates the same way.

    Best

    Hi James,

I don't care much for ball casters personally. I have used them but
prefer a pivoting rear wheel like those used on R/C model airplanes.
They operate with much less friction and don't get hung up on throw
rugs and bumps. If your robot is big and heavy though, it might not
work. You can probably get one a local hobby shop or I know you can
get them here under wheels and casters:

    Good luck.
