Question about BS2p 24 and 40 and scenix SX48BD/TQ

edited 2003-12-30 17:52 in General Discussion
Hello to everyone,

I'm new in the group and I'm sorry if my question looks like stupid.

So the price for BS2p 24 or 40 is higher for my and I decided to made it. I
found some sources for delivery of spare parts and especially for scenix
SX48BD/TQ.

My general question is:

Is it necessary to use any boot loaders /souce code/ for first initialization
when program BS2p 24 for the first time?

Or

Is it necessary to use any special tips and tricks to connect BS2p 24 with PC,
or SW+PC via Com port will care for all?

Or

How to wake up my own made BS2p?

Thanks in advance,

zarc0

Sorry, but you need to purchase a pre-programmed Ubicom SX48 from us.
We're not selling a blank chip, we're selling a chip that contains our
considerable intellectual property (PBASIC virtual machine). If you're
really set on building your own, we have schematics on our web site:

Sorry, zarc, but the 'PBasic Language Interpreter'
built in to all Stamp products is a proprietary
product of Parallax. As said elsewhere, they
have an "OEM" product they will sell you, which
is an SX48 pre-programmed with their product,
    for less than a full-fledged BS2P 24 or 40.
But that's the only way you'll "build your
    own BS2".

It turns out the hardware is the easy part
of this business (not to say that part
is 'really' easy, there are lots of gotchas
in the hardware side). Getting the software
right is 90% of the cost.

They want to recover their cost of implementing
this platform, and continuing to make a profit,
and continuing to provide some of the best
    documentation and support around. Keeping
their interpreter code proprietary is how
    they do this.

    They provide extensive, high-quality
documentation on how to apply that proprietary
code, so I certainly don't mind their making
    a profit on it.

Having said all that, if you want to build
your own SX48 based module, there are resources
on the web which can help you do that. There
    are public boot-loaders, compilers, board
suppliers, etc. Parallax themselves sells one
of the best in-circuit programming systems for
    the SX chips.

Just don't call your result a Basic Stamp, because
that's a proprietary name owned by
Parallax. And be aware that while you may
think the BS2P40 price point is high, in reality
it can save you LOTS of time. So you have to
ask yourself, what is my time worth?

Hi Jon, Allan, and all members in the group,

Thank you for your post and answer. Solution and price with pre-programmed
Ubicom SX48 from Parallax is fine. Have you /I mean Parallax Co./ any
representative offices /online stores/ in Europe or especially in Bulgaria?

    Br,

I don't believe our OEM parts are carried by European distributors. You
can, however, order them online directly from us. We ship all over the
    world.
