im tring to make a scsi cable tester and not sure where to start not
enough i/o pins to do this is an i/o coprossesor what i need or will

You can use a serially interfaced MAX6952 to control 140 LEDS at a
time and I believe the highest count SCSI cable is 80 lines (SCA
type)so that would give you more than enough outputs.
You could also go the way of a few 74HC595 and/or it's brother the
74HC165 as well or IO coprocessors depending on how you want to test.
Have a look through some of the Nuts/Volts/Stampworks/Edu Material
columns on Parallax's website for expanding IO info.
It all really depends on what method you are thinking of testing
with.
You won't need a controller in a lot of instances.
