I have seen several requests for some type of circuit to monitor when a furnace
or other appliance is running. Check out the MID400 from Fairchild. It only
requires a single resistor and will work with ac and dc inputs from 5 volts to
240 volts. It's avalible from www.mouser.com for just over 5 bucks. Output is
ttl level and it does not vary with the 60 hertz ac sine wave. The ac input must
drop to 0 volts for several milliseconds before the output goes low.
