Heads up display

This may be (a little bit) off topic, but is anyone familiar with a
generic heads- up display that can be driven by either a Stamp or by a VGA or
similar display
driver?

My friend has a sony Glasstron. Its somewhat like a virtual reality
glasses type display that covers your entire field of view. It
accepts a S-video and composite input. We have successfully used a
video title generator circuit to put text onto the display using a
stamp. Thats as close I have come upto a HUD.

    Thanks.
My understanding of the Glasstron is that it is like a
wear-on-your-head monitor, which is not really appropriate for
superposing an image on the ambient environment. Reviews indicate that,
even though it can let SOME of the outside world in, it's not enough to
integrate outside world and display together.
What I'm looking for, and this is an analogy, is something that I
could drive a car with, and have it superpose information on my field
of view (rather than replacing my field of view). Something like the
    infra-red night-vision heads-up-display system that's an option (or was
    an option) on Caddys.

I had considered bouncing a high brighness LED display off the inside of
my windshield, but haven't had the time to try it yet. Perhaps that's
something you can explore and let us know.

Thanks Jon. That's possible, but I don't think it has development legs.
By that, I mean are there any multicolor, fine-grained, graphical
hi-powered LEDs (aside from the fifty-footer in front of the Holland
Tunnel in New York City) that can step up the display complexity? I
know of noe, and I would hate to go through the trouble of developing a
    device that couldn't be 'upgraded.'

I was going for a simpler approach: my idea is to use four 5x7 dot
matrix (red or green) displays that I could could control with the
Stamp. A wheel-mounted button would allow me to scroll through items
displayed. So many ideas, so little time....

    Having problems posting - check out www.decadenet.com - "BOB-III".
This will provide you with what you need. It is also available at
    www.jameco.com - BOB-II for $69.95.

It accepts RS232 input and will display the information on the TV
via RCA or S-Video (with a little circuitry). It can also do the
    overlay mode.

I am going to use it to display vehicle information for a friend's
truck on his LCD video screen.

    Hope this helps.
