software requirements on an older laptop

I'm new to basic stamps and most of this in general... I've been
looking around and can't seem to find the requirements for running
the Development software. I'm considering buying an older laptop to
use for most of my possible work but don't want to get one that's too
old or won't support the things I need it to. Thank you for your
assistance.

If the laptop will run Win95 or better yet, Win 98 or 98SE you should be
all set. There is a DOS editor, but it's not nearly as powerful as the
Windows Editor. Presently the DOS Editor MUST be used for the BS-1 but that is
    supposed to change shortly.

You should have at least Windows 98 to run our current software. We
have older versions of software that will run on Win95 and some DOS
programs, but you won't be able to take advantage of updated language
features that are part of the new compiler.

Yes, programming BS1 modules from Windows will be available for public
Beta in the next two or three weeks. It does work -- I'm doing it now.
The BS1 and BS2 handle DEBUG very differently, so that is taking some
time to get sorted out within one environment.

The laptop MUST have at least one serial port,
OR have a USB port so you can attach a USB to
serial adapter. Only recently have they
started making laptops with only USB ports,
so that shouldn't be a problem.

Note Win95, and WinNT 4.0 do not support
USB ports at all. Win95B does.
