MIDI module?

Does any one knows of a MIDI module or a chip that can provide some
simple electronic music sounds. Ideally if there were something
like the Quadravox QV306M4P Playback Module from Parallax.

Do you mean a unit with functions like the Quadravox, but accepting a MIDI
    interface?

Actually I am using a Quadravox by the problem is that it is fairly
difficult to digitize good quality sound and then play them back
with fidelity. Ideally, I want a similar device that would give me
midi notes with a small selection of insturments sound. That way, I
can ask it through the stamp to play a guitar C or any other note.
Do you know of any such IC or device?

You could just send MIDI commands to a low-cost instrument.

THat is one solution that I tried. I converted a small antique harp
(about 12" wide by 20" tall" into a laser harp for our outreach
program. I have very little space in it, and currently I am
carrying a box with that houses a cheap Radio Shack synth that I
mothballed to access the midi access. By it is too large, and
that's why I am looking for a less cumbersome solution.
