I am using a PARA LIGHT C-5214 7 Segment LED. There are 5 Pins located
at the top and bottom of the device. I am trying to complete Stamp
works #8 but I can not seem to get the pin configuration right. Can
someone help?
Thanks Mark

do you know if it is a common anode or common cathode display?
    - to check this you will have to put a 150 ohm resistor on every
pin of the display and 5Vdc applied all at once to every resistor. Now one
by one remove 5Vdc and apply ground. if nothing happens remove the gound and
replace 5Vdc and continue on to the next resistor.

    - if you light it up in this manner the pin tied to ground is your
common cathode pin and the rest are anodes. you would have a 8 Displayed on
    your led display

    - if nothing happens you will have to to the opposite. apply
ground to all the resistors and one by one remove ground and apply 5Vdc.
remove the 5vdc replace ground and continue on to the next resistor.

    - if you light it up in this manner the pin tied to ground is your
common anode pin and the rest are cathodes. you would have a 8 Displayed on
    your led display

and from there if you get some results you can firgure out which segments go
    to which pin.
i know this a long way but it works when experimenting. half of engineering
    is trial and error.
lets see if this helps you.

Here is the data sheet(s) to the part in question, this should
    answer your question:

    http://www.para.com.tw/pdf/E-Display/E04-CA501X,CA521X.pdf

If that link didn't work go to para's website and hunt it down.

Am I correct to assume (bad word there) That the pins on that Led goes
1-5 and 6-10 on the other side like an IC?

If I were you I would test each pin/led with a resistor and a power supply.

    Mark,

I went to the web sight you posted for the 7 seg display. The device you have
is easy to hook up, but I need to know the exact part number you have. There
are four different 7 segs listed. Also, you can email me off list with your
phone number and I can call you. Or simply tell me the exact part number. Also,
do you have a digital volt meter (will explain later).

Jim, no need to get angry. His doubt is very understandable (he has checked
the data sheet, which was sent to the list in a recent message). Check the
data sheet yourself to see if this is clear there. It isn´t. My guess is
that yes, you read the pins as if it was a regular IC. But the data sheet is
    not clear.

    Regards.

looking at the front of the display, pin one is lower left, pin 5 in lower
right, pin 6 is upper right, pin 10 is upper left.

Jim, no need to get angry. His doubt is very understandable (he has checked
the data sheet, which was sent to the list in a recent message). Check the
data sheet yourself to see if this is clear there. It isn´t. My guess is
that yes, you read the pins as if it was a regular IC. But the data sheet is
    not clear.

    Regards.
