CU40046MCPB-S VFD disply

Hi All,

I am thinking of buying a CU40046MCPB-S VFD display. Has anyone used this or
a similar unit? It is a 4X40, which I assume is actually two 2X40s together.

Thanks,

Jonathan

    I'm using a Seiko L4044B1J.
It's a 4line*40 parallel LCD display with backlight.

    Go to:
    http://www.allcorp.com/

You can't find a cheaper big display.

The BS2p has inbuilt command to send directly to the Display.
Input E1 and E2 are to address the upper or lower 2 lines, as you
discovered correctly, they are programmed as two different displays.

    Stein.

The LCD display is very different from the VFD. I am using a similar VFD from
IEE. The part number is 03602-100-05420. It is a 4 X 20 with both aserial or
parallel input. The parallel is similar to the 8 bit format fro the Hitachi
controller used in LCDs. The VFDs are quite costly but can't be beat for
    illumination and viewing angle.

    Stein,

Nice display, I ordered one. But, for my current project, I really want to
    use a VFD.

Our local surplus shop has 4x40's for $10 USD. Can't remember if they
    are backlit or not.

Yup on them being electrically two separate displays, and the pin-out is
    different as well.

As far as VFD's, they are good and crisp, but suck power like nobody's
business. Don't expect to use a large VFD on a battery-powered device.

    Azeasi,

Is the display any different to use than an LCD? The display I am looking at
is serial or parallel, and I was planning on using the serial. I know that
one has to deal with it as two seperate displays, but I have never done it.
Any tips or codes snips would be welcome.

    Bill,

It's not for a battery powered application, it's for my weather station, so
    thats OK. Ever used one?
