dead BS2P24?

For a more elaborate project I had Parallax send me a BS2p, usually I use the
BS2.

Before I build a PC board to plug the little thing in I built the serial port
connection circuit (a DB9 plug and two capacitors, according to Parallax
documents) on my breadboard, connceted 5 V to VDD and ground to Vss and booted
up the DOS version of Stamp2p.
Unfortunately the program does not recognize my hardware and I don't know why.
The BS2p definetly is powered up, and my PC is definetly sending pulses, I can
see fleeting images on my scope, but something is wrong.

Does anybody have any idea what to test next?

TIA Uwe

Replace the BS2p with a known working BS2 and try to talk to it with
STAMP.EXE. If that works, you'll know your connection is intact.

Yes, good idea, except my BS2's are the OEM version, they have the DB9 business
    permanently attached.
Are you suggesting to pull the processor from the OEM board? What are the pin
numbers for SOUT, SIN, ATN and VSS, VDD?

No. If you are using a BS2p module, then dropping in just the PIC from
an OEM board will not work.

It sounds like you forgot to loop the DB-9
pin 6 to pin 7. This is what the compiler
uses to detect if the cable is plugged in.

So you need -- wired straight through:
    2, 3 -- TX and RX
4 -- DTR, used to reset the stamp
    5 -- Ground
    6 -- RTS
7 -- CTS -- RTS and CTS are wired together,
so the compiler can detect connection.
