Ok, maybe some more info would have been usefull.
system: windows 2000, 1GhzPIII, plenty of RAM,
The stepper motor controller has been running for about 5 years without a
problem on a windowsNT4 machine which died when it was patched to
service pack6, other machines i have can identify the chip on the stepper
motor controller yet when i put it in this new machine it can't identify it. If
i
take a basic stamp on a bread board it can identify that chip using the same
RS232 cable ...... i have no idea whats going on.

Matt.
