needed to read relative distances, not absolute, so it worked fine for me.
actually, since the delay is constant, you could probably factor that into
the distance calc's to get the true distance, ofcourse you would be
sacrificing short distance readings.

reintroduced soon (Rev Dx and a new BOE-type board) and your efforts

I got around that problem by introducing a small delay in the return
pulse from the SRF04 using a gate with an r/c network. This gave the
stamp the necessary uS's to advance to the command to read the return
pulse. I only needed to read relative distances, not absolute, so it
worked fine for me. actually, since the delay is constant, you could
probably factor that into the distance calc's to get the true distance,

sorry this took so long to post; lots of things going on. this kludge is
actually pretty simple (sorry about the exceptionally bad graphics...):
| ping--> |
p0 |
>|ping
| |
"bs/1" | | "SRF04"
| |
| |
| +
|echo
| |
| |
| |
| +--+--|
)
| | | )
| / | )
| \ | AND )
| R= 200 / | gate ))
+
| \ | ) |
| | | ) |
| +--| ) |
| | |
) |
| | |
| - |
| - c=10uF |
| | |
| | |
| V |
| gnd |
| |
| |
| |
| <---echo |
p1 |<
+
|
The main problem is that the bs/1 is too slow to catch the rising edge of
the "echo" pulse from the '04 after sending the "ping" command; by the time
the stamp advances to the command to read the echo, the rising edge has
already happened, so the pulsin command doesn't have the transition it needs
to start timing. (sorry if this is all old stuff to people; it helps me
remember what I was doing-- getting old and stuff...)
The r/c network and the gate provide the necessary delay (about 200uS).
When the echo pulse goes high, the gate doesn't pass the signal on to p1 of
the stamp until the the delay has passed.
There are no significant changes to the controlling software beyond the
recognition that the stamp will not be able to resolve distances closer than
about 3 inches (73uS/inch, 200uS delay).
Hope someone finds this helpful.
