Parallax - Special on SX Tech Tool Kit (#45180)

Hello,

I recently posted an email stating that we are offering $50 off the SX
Tech Tool Kit (#45180 - includes SX Key Manual v1.1).

If you went to the link below, the product mistakenly stated "Out of
Stock!"
http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=45180

I have adjusted the database inventory level which allows you to order
the kit. Only 32 remain in stock as of 10/22/03 at 7:45am PST.

Best Regards,

Erik Wood

Having seen one of these used in robotics,
and wanting to have a 50 MIPS processor,
and finding this is the 'right price', I've
gone ahead and ordered the kit.

So, now I have the 'problem' of finding
a supplier of prototyping boards. Not to
be difficult, but the Parallax protoboard is
$50.00 each, and has a 'breadboard' module on
it. While this is great for learning, it's
not so good for making 10 prototypes.

Anyone have any supplier suggestions for
    applying this beast? In-circuit programming
is fine, as long as I have the 4 pins needed
    for the programming adapter.

What I did was made some ribbon cable adapters for the I/O pins that go to a
larger breadboard and leave the SX on the small board that came with the unit
sold by Parallax. Once I have the breadboard version working I use
    expresspcb.com and have boards manufacutured.

You will like this uP, but be warned. not nearly as freindly as the basic
stamp to program. There is a Yahoo group for the SX, same as this group.

You might consider rolling your own. Take a look at www.expresspcb.com.

What PCB layout software do you use?

Check out this web site for a boards for control applications using stamps.
Has support for stamp module I/O, programming, high current outputs, LEDs
indicate status of outputs and even additional breadboard space for
    additional parts.

I like eagle, but probably mostly because I'm cheap. It allows
construction of up to 2x3 (something like that ) boards on the demo
version, though there are ways to tweak that into larger boards - I laid
out a 5x7 board with the demo version at one point.

You might be interested in my latest book which is now available
(http://tinyurl.com/hisc). It covers using Eagle and also how to make your
own boards (photo or laser printer method) and how to send them out to a
service house (which can be tricky the first time you do it).
