Hallo everyone.
I am very novice in electronics so i hope my questions may not be
very silly for an expert.
I have a power supply with possible voltage selections
6VDC,7.5VDC,9VDC and 12VDC. On its specs it says that it has power
18W and max current 1000mA.
Is it safe to use it to power a board of education??
I know that 6-9VDC are recomended but what about the current???
I do not know how to protect my stamp and the Boe from static
electricity. Do I need to take any special measures??
Thank you
Greg

Use the 6 volt setting. If you get strange behavior (does not recognize
stamp, or something other) switch to the 7.5 volt setting.
Regarding the current. The board of education, or any circuit will take only
the current it needs, which will be far less than 1000 mA if everything is
connected properly, so the 1000 mA spec will not be a problem.
Regarding static electricity, if at all possible, once you are seated at your
work bench, discharge yourself by touching something metalic that is
"connected" to the floor/earth, like a water pipe, but may not be feasable. If
you
notice you are getting zapped as you walk across your floor then touch the door
knob, you should definately look into getting an earth connection at your work
bench to discharge yourself.
On a 3 prong 110 vac wall outlet, if it is properly wired, the third leg
(semi-circle shaped) goes to earth. Truthfully though, it scares the hell out of
me to connect myself to a wall sockett and you mentioning that you are a novice
at electronics, I would NOT recommend you try to ground yourself via the
third leg of a wall socket.

you're 1000mA will be plenty.
