I have a camcorder project idea. One of the uses of a Sstamp is to use
it to control other devices. Many of us are also into video cameras,
monitors and possibly video recording. I've been loooking for a low cost
video camera with optical zoom and a small LCD monitor for quite a while
with no luck. What do think about breaking a camcorder down into
individual useable modules? For example in a quick search for cheap
camcorders I found on at Circuit City for $230. The Stamp could contol
the zoom functions and recording. The monitor could be possitioned
remotely, etc. The big question is does any one know how hard it would
be to seperate the unit? I've never taken one apart so I have no idea.
If it can be resonably done, are there specific models which any of you
might recommend?
I love to hear your ideas,
Chris D.

I have been doing Surviellence for some time now dealing with inexpensive
CMOS cameras, CCD cameras and even some old school CCTV cameras. i even have
an Ademco Rapid view Dome camera mounted on my house.
http://www.ademcovideo.com/products/Domes/RapidDomeEnv.htm
anyways, i have taken my parents old Hi-8 mm camcorder apart. and let me
tell you it is a pain. and that camera was built ten years ago. now they are
tiny.and motors are a lot smaller. i would recommend to buy a CCD camera
surveillance type and a C-Mount Zoom lens. you could purchase a lens that
automatically has an auto iris (focus) feature or you could also control the
Iris with the stamp also. with the proper tools and knowledge of programming
you could very well make your self a Dome camera with Pan Tilt Zoom and
Focus all using one stamp(bs2 or greater), 2 unipolar stepper motors (with
the ULN2003A stepper driver), zoom lens (with iris feature), and a 2 axis
potentiometer joystick (using RCTIME to decode positioning)
(whenever using the stamp to control a zoom lens besure to use Relays, the
stamp cannot handle the load.)
hope this helps and please take pics. i would like to see your results.
thanks Gary D
