serial Xtra

Hello,
I am trying to use the serial Xtra from physicalbits.com. I have a
photosensor and when it is covered, it sends the word "dark" to the
stampeditor debug terminal on my PC. If it's working correctly, should I
have to change this data somehow before it's sent to a director program on
my mac?, or should the word "dark" also appear? Curently, it's returning an
empty string and I'm not sure if it's because of my Director Program, or my
stamp program.
Thanks,
Amanda

If active, it holds the Stamp in Reset.
The Stamp Editor terminal 'knows' about this,
and carefully makes DTR 'inactive' so the
stamp can run.
If you've put this pin in, you may have to
disconnect it from the MAC to get any output.

DTR? On the stamp board, I only have the RxD and TxD pins connected, but
DTR isn't an option. Is there a schematic somewhere?

Pin 2 and 3 are TX and RX. Pin 4 is DTR
(out from PC and input to Stamp). Pin 5
is Ground. Pin 6 wired to Pin 7 so the
IDE Programmer can detect the cable is
connected. If you don't have pin 5
connected, I'm surprised it works at all.
Schematic of the Parallax stamp board at:
http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28150
(reassemble link in notepad if necessary)
Scan to the bottom of the page.
Click on 'Board Of Education Rev C Schematic'.
On the bottom of that page, see the DB-9
wiring: 2 to SOUT, 3 to SIN, 4 to ATN
(that's the DTR line. The Capacitors
allow DTR to be active), 5 to GND,
Pin 6 to Pin 7.
