interfacing magnetic or smartcard reader

I just purchased the Basic STAMP 2P24 development kit.
Has anybody had any luck or experience interfacing
this to a magnetic or smartcard reader using RS232 or
even TTL? I've scoured the web and I can't seem to
find any info, even tech support at parallax has never
done this, which I find hard to believe. I hope I
bought the right MCU to do this. Any info or
direction would be fantastic...

Thanks in advance for your time

Andy

    Hi,

    Take a look at
    http://www.athena-scs.com/pdf/TN-03%20Host-Reader%20Protocol.pdf
for a protocol description a some reader. It allows rs232 protocol where
the reader may send to the host (= stamp) at will (no handshake). A second
serial protocol (ASP) may be better suited: the stamp:is master and the
reader is slave but requires rs232 with handshake plus reset line.

The protocol appears to be propietary to some specific reader but at least
this protocol is public. It should be doable.

    Success,
    Peter
