Cheap LCD Displays?

Hello Group, I was wondering if anyone had tried generating caller ID tones
using the Basic Stamp 2?

Wal Mart sell fully functional caller ID boxes for about $8.00 Canadian. If the
tones could be generated, maybe the caller ID circuitry and LCD's could be used
as very inexpensive output devices for stamp projects? Failing that, it might
just be fun to send false caller ID data to friends over the phone!

Scott.

All Electronics just got in a bunch of different displays recently.
Looks like most use the 44780 controller which you can use the EDE
LCD to serial chip with these. They have 4X40 with LED backlight for
$29 bux which ain't too bad.

You might look at my new LCD #105 kit. In addition to providing the
serial LCD functions with a rich command set, it also provides two
10-bit A/D, two TTL inputs, two TTL outputs, a counter and two runs to
Dallas DS1820s. Each run can accommodate up to 16 DS1820s with a
maximum of 200 feet of cable. $12.95.

This can be purchased with a Truly 20 X 4 LCD with LED backlight for
    $24.95.

Halted Specialties is also selling the Displaytech
204A for $7 (supposed to be 44780 compatible).

Keep shopping. Tanner's (Dallas, TX) had them for $9.95. Just remember,
a 4x40 is electrically 2 2x40 displays in one package.

They don't do mail-order, but BG Micro, also in Dallas, does online
sales and usually carries the same stuff at a similar price.
