You can build your own version of the SRF04 for non-commercial use.
The PIC source code & schematics are available from -

    Try:
    http://www.circuitcellar.com/PSOC2002/winners/1.pdf

This is a Cypress PSoC design that uses a PSoC micro controller, two
transducers and some resistors and Capacitors. It outputs range as a
serial signal, a pulse or on an LCD display.

    Chris,

Neat looking design. Is code available for this project?

    Thanks for the link.

The code is included in the project files. PSoCs are pretty cool
chips. I use them as stand alone controlers or as slave processors.
The developement software is free, PSoCs are cheap, the chip has only
about 35 opcodes. There is a C compiler, but it isn't cheap. The only
drawbacks I can think of is that you'd have to buy a programmer (about
$80, but there will probably be some others out on the market soon) and
figuring out how to configure the analog partsof the chip (but the
developement software takes care of most of this).
