"BACKPACK" LCD thingy

Hey guys,
I thought I had, either heard here OR, saw on the Net, something about an
"LCD BACKPACK" that would attach to your normal parallel LCD and you'd then
only have to send serial data. (hope that all makes sense!).
Where does one find these?
Thanks
SB

Steven -
The Serial Backpack (per se) can be found below, and is a product of Scott
Edwards Electronics:
http://www.seetron.com/slcds.htm
There is a single IC that can be used in a similar manner from Elab Inc:
http://www.elabinc.com/
and punch up the EDExx Series of ICs. The EDE700 or EDE702 are the ICs you
want to look at.

Although it is not on a PCB as with the Scott Edwards Backpack, I
recently finished the design of a $12.50 kit that provides the serial
LCD function. The LCD geometry may be set for 2X16, 2X20, 2X24, 2X40,
4X16 or 4X20 LCDs. The geometry, user defined characters, tab size
and cursor style are stored in EEPROM.
In addition, it provides two DS1820 runs where up to 16 DS18S20 or
DS18B20 may be accommodated on each run.
It also provides two 10-bit A/D converters, a counter and two TTL
outputs.
This is at http://www.phanderson.com/lcd105.html

I also have a similar assembled unit with a 2X16 LCD and a relay at
http://www.phanderson.com/lcd110/lcd110.html
Best wishes.
