BTW: It's this magic smoke inside the ICs which makes them operate. That's
why when you release the smoke to the atmosphere that they stop working.
Also, the color of the smoke could be important, so make sure you note it
the next time you fry an IC.... ;0)

That's and old wives tale.
it's not the smoke,it's the magic that is let out. smoke is just a
vapor trail of the fast departing magic.
kinda like when you see trails in the sky behind airplanes. the
plane is a tiny speck, and like the plane, the magic is very fast !
the smoke kinda hangs around for awhile.
