Water Level Sensor...

Many, many thanks to all of you for your variety of innovative
ideas for sensing water level!! I surely would not have thought of most of
them on my own. Tracy, thank you in particular for taking the time to
share your experience and insight as well. I will be getting together with
this friend of mine in about a week and a half to discuss these options and
see just what he would like to do. My gut feeling is that he will want to
keep things as simple and cost effective as possible. In the mean time, I
thought of these ideas too:

If he doesn't want a permanent installation, how about using a
hand-held ultrasonic tape measure to simply ping a distance measurement
from the top of the well to the water surface, to get a close idea of the
water level in the well? About fifty bucks, and very effective, but a pain
in the butt to go out to the yard and take the measurement each time he'd
like to know the condition of the water level.

Or, I found this simple circuit -- not Stamp based-sorry -- but
you couldn't get much cheaper or easier than this:

and

Do you guys think that if stainless rods were used as the probes
for this circuit, they would corrode quickly do to the electrolysis
induced by the DC voltage run through them?

Just additional thoughts,

Tim
