What is a keyverter?

Parallax's website has a new item called keyverter.
It says it converts PS/2 keystrokes to TTL/RS232 levels.
What is PS/2? PlayStation or old IBM PS2 computer?

PS/2 is the designation for the keyboard port on your PC tower.
Maybe I should have written the description this way:
The KeyVerter allows the BASIC Stamp to read keystrokes. The BASIC
Stamp can emulate a keyboard when interfaced with the KeyVerter.
If you need further clarification or if anyone has any other questions,
I can check with Technical Support.

When 'reading keyboards', there's two directions.
One is when you plug a keyboard into a gizmo, which
then lets the BS2 'read' the keystrokes. I believe
this is what the 'keyverter' does -- allow you to
connect a keyboard to a BS2.
The other direction is when you plug the BS2 into
the PC's keyboard port. In this case, the BS2 can
now 'pretend' to BE a keyboard, and feed the PC
the signals it expects as 'keystrokes'.
Now, does the 'keyverter' do BOTH? One at a time?
Both at the same time? Only allow Keyboard to BS2?
Only allow BS2 to REPLACE keyboard for PC?
I assume it only allows PC keyboard connection to
the BS2 -- have I got this wrong? People need
both functions from time to time, so it's nice
to know which one the 'keyverter' supports.

The KeyVerter only decodes the data from the keyboard.
If you want to send the keystrokes to the PC on the PS/2 port, then you
will need the Memkey.

In response to the earlier thread on the Keyverter, this page on our web
site contains more information -
http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=30062
The manufacturer is Intuitive Circuits LLC. Parallax is the distributor
for this product that works very well with the BASIC Stamp.
Additional documentation and source code is available on their site -
