===========================
UNDERSTANDING SIGNALS with
the OPTAscope tutorial now
available for download!
===========================

See http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28014 near the bottom.

Parallax is adding an additional tutorial to our BASIC Stamps in Class
program: Understanding Signals. This tutorial is based on the OPTAscope
USB oscilloscope. You can download the Understanding Signals tutorial
and the OPTAscope software from our web site.

When the OPTAscope first arrived at Parallax we found it to be the
perfect tool for education: small, inexpensive and USB interface. For
this reason we've partnered with the manufacturer as their exclusive
distributor and prepared the Stamps in Class style text. The 124-page
text consists of eight chapters demonstrating signals for servo control,
PWM, R/C circuits, infrared, op-amps and synchronous/asynchronous serial
communication. All circuits are commonly used in the other Stamps in
Class texts.

Note that we will be supplementing the standard OPTAscope product with
the tutorial and the parts kit at no additional cost to our customers.
We will also have discounted 10 and 20-packs of the package for
educators. This will happen in about two weeks after we print the text
(and receive your comments).

The current document is a draft. If you find technical errors or
grammatical corrections please forward them to
stampsinclass@p... within a few days. If you provide significant
error correction or improvements we will send you a BASIC Stamp 2 module
for free (U.S. customers only, sorry). All hardware freebies are at our
discretion. We won't reward a single nitpick, but a page of them will
get you a BASIC Stamp.

Sincerely,

Ken Gracey
Parallax, Inc.

How many errors gets us a OPTAscope ?

(probably are not that many in the whole text!)

    Hi Dave,

Good question. Anything is possible. Maybe something like:

    - a page of nitpicks (grammar, factual improvements, schematic
    errors)

    - a couple pages of real improvement tips and hints

How does that sound? We want a high-quality tutorial and we don't expect
it for free. At this point we're so far over budget so what's an extra
OPTAscope or two going to matter anyway? In the scope of things it'll
only be a bit in the stream. . .

In the stamp works experiments downloads, 23 and 23b both result in 23a.pdf
    being downloaded....

so, what you're saying is that it is not the stray bit of data
that will result in a response, but a higher frequency
of reports of errors, or a correction that offers more gain.

I can see how using the list to get a larger sample
would offer speed the process of eleminating errors

For those of us who may find one or two, bits,
that do not have much amplitude, I guess we would report
    sign & wave

    Hey Dave,

I think you're basically oscillating at the right frequency. While
it's true that one or two bits of data with low amplitude may not
seem like much to you, customer data can often be a positive trigger
for rising customer donations. If we can synchronize signals on small
yet important points there's a good chance we'll be on the rising
    edge of customer satisfaction.

    Ken
