off topic: PDA instead of a Stamp?

First off, I'd like to thank the members of this group for providing
me lots of great support over the past year in coming up to speed on
Stamps and Stamp-related projects. It's nice to find a group where
people will answer stupid questions with patience instead of
profanity!
My current project needs to play audio in addition monitoring
pushbuttons/dipswitches and turning relays on and off. My Stamp 2SX
is performing quite nicely in that role in conjunction with a Sony CD-
player.
Can anyone comment on the feasibility of replacing my Stamp/CD player
setup in a future model, with a PDA? My thought is that if I could
find a PDA that could play MP3's, it would eliminate the need for a
large CD player with moving parts, and configuration (currently done
with dipswitches) could be done via a touchscreen.
In addition to that, I will need to write some code that will monitor
the state of a pushbutton and turn some solid-state relays on and
off. I am completely ignorant as to what various PDA's on the market
can do, or what their interfacing capabilities are, so any comments
would be welcome.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Stamp, I just need to simplify and
save some space! :-)
Thanks!
