Is there a command (XOUT & XIN) for the BS2 to input data from a two way I/O
module that sends and receives X-10 commands?

Thanks for your help.

The is XOUT only. If you have the latest compiler (suggested), the help
file can be easily searched when you have these kinds of questions.

Also, X10's new 'Active Home' package has
a computer interface (the CM11, though they
won't tell you that) which sends and
receives through RS232 -- MUCH easier and
more convenient than their TW523 module,
which the BS2 XOUT command is supposed to
work with.

Dear Jon,

Thanks for your reply. Could you give me a little more detail about how I would
have found something that wasn't there i.e. XIN command :)))? bth, I did
download the latest complier and did search the help file before I asked.
Thanks again!!

Well, our help file uses the Windows standard CHM format, so it's pretty
easy. You could click on the Contents tab (if it's not visible, click
the Show icon in the toolbar), then looked under PBASIC Reference. You
can find all current PBASIC commands and on which devices the work
listed alphabetically and by function. That list provides direct links
to the syntax definitions and explanation. Another thing that we try to
do is have intelligent links on the keyword pages. Let's say you found
XOUT but were still curious about XIN (which doesn't exist in PBASIC).
If it did, you would find a link to it at the bottom of the XOUT page
under Related Commands.

There's also a Search tab that lets you find a word and all the places
it does show up. Try it. If you put XIN as a search string, then click
List Topics, you'll get a dialog that says "No Topics Found." We've
compiled the help file so it does a full text search. If you enter a
string that's in the help file, it will be found.

I respectfully disagree with you, Allan. Web forums are a great
resource, but should not be considered a replacement for manufacturer's
documentation. My response to Leroy was not a flame; just hints at
using our help file that we worked very hard to make useful. The help
file, being electronic, is easier for us to update and distribute.

Dear Allan,

Thanks so much for your help, Allan. I did a google search for 'cm11' and found
the entire command structure for the device. I need to decide now if I would
write some code in PBASIC, or do it in QBASIC. If I remember right, QBASIC will
allow you look for a serial input, with out tieing up the processor. (Little
thing called interupts that some one forgot to include with PBASIC). I think I
am a little more familar with QBASIC as it it a true language with out a bunch
of rules that are all most impossible to understand with out a step by step
guide as to it's operation. It's good to know that there are people out there
who can understand just a simple question and give just a simple answer.

thanks again!

Leroy

Leroy

I respectfully disagree with you, Allan. Web forums are a great
resource, but should not be considered a replacement for manufacturer's
documentation. My response to Leroy was not a flame; just hints at
using our help file that we worked very hard to make useful. The help
file, being electronic, is easier for us to update and distribute.

Oh, please, let's not flame war over this.
His question was, if you've found XOUT in
the manual, how do you know for sure there
is no XIN, even if you can't find it in
the manual?

Answer: you ask the forum. Being told to
RTM, even in very polite extended detail,
doesn't really address Leroy's issue.
Plus -- he was joking in his reply!
