focused IR beam...

If I wanted to use a focused IR beam so that it was more precise
instead of spreading out, how could I do that? With a tube? Or some
kind of lense? Or is there some kind of ir transmitter like that
already?

Is laser tag really ir tag?

im trying to find the solution to this myself. but yes laser tag is
IR tag in a sense. its not actually IR because the laser (red) has a
visible wavelength spectrum of 650nM +/- 50nM (nanometers). but in
laser tag the power supply to the laser is pulsed by a microprocessor
creating a frequency other that the wavelength of the laser beam
itself. i dont know if we can pulse Semiconductor lasers using
PULSOUT or FREQOUT but i know we can pulse HENE (helium neon) lasers
due to the Gaseous nature and that is the type used in profressional
laser tag arenas and i dont really want the 1400Vdc power supply
interfaced with my basic stamp. i have been thinking about this
project for a while myself and dont think that the IR sepctrum will
give me the distance i want for my laser tag. it is very easy to
implement an IR laser tag system, because we can tell what frequency
to fire the IR Led and the recieving end what frequency is what
player. i will definately research this further, and please let me
know if you find more info implementing Lasers. Thanks Gary D
