Many of us make one's and twos from scratch.
there is a laser transfer method that works for large traces and not
routes between IC pads, one sided is pretty easy.
practice makes perfect, and Radio shack sells the chemicals.
if you have more time than money, not a bad idea.
if you need complicated boards, look at a board house.

Also, I don't know how big a secret this is, but my next book is:
