Bad resolution on my Sony Playstation Controller

I finally hooked up a Sony Playstation Controller to my BS2P Stamp. I
used a cut off extension cable ($10) for the connection, then built and
housed the circuit described in the great June 2003 Nut's and Volts
article. The debug window comes up and everything seems to be working
fine except that the apparent resolution of the 4 joysticks are awful.

When I very very slowly move one of the joysticks it's respective 8 bit
values will look like the following:
130
130
130
130
130
130
130
130
130
130
130

115
115
115
115
115
115
115
115
92
92
92
92
92

etc. However, if I insert a "PAUSE 250" in the main loop and move the
joystick in same slow manner, the values look fine.
130
129
127
126
123
122
120

Can some explain what might be going on?

Regards,
Chris Dundorf
