Wierd Stamp editor problem.

Version 1.33 and even version 2.0b don't run correctly on this one
laptop that I have. I try to "Identify" the stamp and the window opens
with a stamp type of "Ignoring" and all options greyed out except for
"close" (which works). I let the machine sit for a half hour and
nothing happens. Fortunately another computer works fine, and if I
connect the successfully programmed stamp to the "bad" computer, I can
open a debug window and that will work fine, you just can't identify or
upload a program from the 'bad' computer.

I tried reinstalling the stamp editor and that didn't help.

I e-mailed support at Parallax and have yet to hear back from them, I'm
wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem.

    Hello Bob.

Can you tell us the laptop model you have?
That could help to find the answer to your problem.

To be able to use the serial port with the BASIC Stamp, try disabling
    the FIFO buffer.
You'll find this setting under the serial port properties, in the Device
    Manager.

Let me know if you have more problems after disabling the serial buffer.

Already tried that. It's as if there is something with the program
itself, since the serial port partially functions (viewing debug
commands on an already running chip).

    Hello,

I just installed the latest beta and had the same problem. Identify would
not work and I could not download unless I used the explicit "port" directive.

I "fixed" it by going into the preferences and on the "editor operation"
tab selecting my default com port (not auto). Once I did that identify,
    downloads, and everything worked.

Thanks, that was the problem. Acutally, the default of "auto" had
somehow been corrupted and the choice was entirely blank! Putting in
    the active COM1 fixed it.

Toshiba's in particular have an 'issue' with
talking to the BS2's. You have to configure
the Serial port to turn FIFO's off. Either
configure the number to 0, or disable the
    FIFO.

Otherwise, BS2 comm will always complain.
