Rotary Switch

I salvaged a rotary type switch from the front of a kenwood
receiver. It has three pins. The center was connected to ground in
the circuit. The switch turns continously and has a click to it.
Does anybody have any information on how to use this switch with a
project?
Thankyou,

Chris,
I'm positve it's a mechanical quadrature encoder. If you connect
5volts to a 1k pull up resistor and a multimeter on either of the non
ground pins and connect the ground pin to the other side, as you turn
it you'll see that they switch between 5V and 0V. Wha part of PDX do
you live in?
