VB5 to STAMP
Archiver

Hi all,
I'm designing a project that monitors several aspects of my house with
the help of X-10 products. I started by using just the stamp and the
debug window and using the debugin command to enter in choices from
debug menus I created. I then realized that it would be better if I had
a more user friendly interface for the rest of my family to use. Now I'm
turning to visual basic. Once I downloaded it and installed it (VB 5) I
was completely confused. If any one could render some support I'd be
very thankful.
Thanks in advance.

With the MSCOMM communications with the Stamp are a snap at least it is for me
using a Stamp 2 with VB6 Pro.

Where did you get the version of VB5 from? are you sure its the
professional version? If you have just obtained the MSCOMM OCX and
registered it then that is probably your problem. I have seen it before
and the only solution that I know of is to re install VB PRO which
includes the MSCOMM OCX.

Microsoft screwed up with the early release of VB 5 Pro. If you get an
error message saying you don't have authorization to use the MSComm
control, you'll need to download and install the fix. I have the file on our
server if you need it. http://www.rentron.com/Files/VB/vbc.exe

license, and a development license. Thus, you
can distribute your VB apps with the DLL, but
the person you distributed to cannot do
development with it.
Now, you HAVE the Pro version, but it's not finding
its development license for that control. Re-installing
VB5 Pro should fix this. Make sure you specify in
the install that you want all controls (this is
NOT a 'minimal' install).
Also, in 'Project', 'Components', make sure the
checked box is the VB5 MSCOMM control. The file
should be 'c:\WIN\System32\MSCOMM32.OCX'.
If it's properly registered with the install of
VB5, it should be in the components list after
install.
