Hello,

I'd like to be able to edit pbasic programs and download them to my
BS2. I've done a few searches on Pocket PC websites but turned up
nothing. Does anyone know of such a programs existance, it'd really
be cool to use my iPAQ to program the Stamp.

Thanks in advance

I've used a pocket PC (hp jornada) to send and receive serial data from
stamps but don't know of any programming software that will run on windows
CE.

I glad someone ask the questions I have been asking for a year
without any real help from anyone or parallax. I have gotten as for
as trying to get the firmware version. Look at the pdf on serial
protocol in the tokenizer section on the parallax downloads. I was
going to use about 200 BSII for a high school class if I was able to
simply download a hex file from my pocket pc to a BSII using VB 5.0
or greater. I give up and I am now looking for another product. I
hope you have better luck.

Curtis,
Before I get started here, I'd like to state that I'm no Stamp or
electronics wiz. Anything I say should be taken with a grain of salt, since
I may or may not know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, it isn't possible to download an iHex file to the stamps, since they
don't use that format. They use "tokens" in a proprietary format. The
closest you can get to an iHex file with the Stamps is the "generate object
code" function in the Stamp editor. It exports a token file contained in a
.exe to automatically download the code to the Stamp from a computer without
the Parallax IDE.
AFAIK, these .exe's aren't CE compatible, and there aren't any other similar
programs to download code from an iPaq or PocketPC. Since the tokens are in
proprietary format, your only real options are to go with a PIC or AVR or
something that does use the iHex format, or beg Parallax to hire you as a
business partner/consultant to develop something for winCE. Good luck! :O)

It can't be that hard to make the Pocket PC program these things,
look "http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=27330" parallax
sells a device that stores about 15 programs that can then be
transfered to the Basic stamp from the device without a PC in the
mix. Thats all I really want to be able to do, the writing programs
directly on the iPAQ would be super cool but I can live with having
to write the programs on the PC. (I actually type the programs out
on my iPAQ now and then cut and paste them into Stamp Editor on my PC
and program the stamp that way now)

With all due respect, if it was easy we would probably have done it by
now..... We have enough difficulty supporting all of the various desktop
versions
of Windows -- and believe me, there are internal differences that make the
programmer's job tough.

We may ultimately support the Palm and PocketPC operating systems, but those
tasks are not very high on our priority list as they would affect so few
customers on a product that we give away [editor]. It's really hard to justify
the
time commitment to those projects with so many other things (like a new
Stamp) still on our plate.

Hey, Palm support would certainly be nice, but it is clearly not a
must-have item. (Who would do program development for anything but a
Palm on a Palm?) On a similar note note, I'm glad that you support Mac,
I have a PC, but the Mac is my main machine.

Jon

I'm sorry if I offended you in any way... I can understand the
dificulties in supporting so many products with limited resources
(Same boat here). And I appreciate everything that Parallax does, I
can't believe that you guys give so much away for free, you guys
rule. When I was talking about a basic stamp editor for the Pocket
PC I was really talking about someone other than Parallax developing
one. There are so many people developing software for the Pocket PC
that I cannot believe that someone hasn't developed an editor yet,
you give the tokenizer away for free.

Once again I appologize if I offended you.

Matt
