Packet Radio / Basic Stamp 2 interface

Does anyone have any experience on interfacing a Basic Stamp and a
TNC for packet radio? I'm not familiar with the data format that the
TNC must receive to operate. Usually the TNC is interfaced with a
computer that includes software that takes care of the TNC interface,
but seeing as I'm using a basic stamp, I don't have the aid of pre-
existing software. Can it take just a simple text input, or is there
a specific format I need to include in the BS2 program?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice that can be provided!
