has anyone used a USB to serial adapter to talk to the stamp from a
usb port? The specs I'm seeing on the web say how fast data can be
transmitted serialy, but not how slow (ie if it would be slow enough
for talking to a basic stamp or PICmicros). Thanks

I use a Keyspan USA-19W USB to serial on my stamps. I have a Toshiba Laptop
without a serial port. I tries a Belkin and a few no name brands. They did not
work with the stamp.
I have not had any problems with the Keyspan, on Stamps or PLC's

It uses the FTDI FT232AM chip, and works with PC's or Macs.
Cost was just slightly below that of a Keyspan or Belkin.

how fast they can go -- but the KeySpan 19W will handle
down to 110 baud -- which is way slower than the
BS2 needs it to be. I like their 4-port model,
also, but it can be a bit pricey.
Parallax has a vendor they like on their
site also.
Stay away from the Belkin -- as they don't handle
the RTS/CTS/DTR lines accurately enough for the
Stamp.
