A/D converter for a joystick

can anyone suggest a good a/d converter IC that works well with the
stamp? I was thinking of using the ADC0831CCN:
http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?
prmenbr=91&prrfnbr=3029&cgrfnbr=501&ctgys=

it has two inputs which is what I need: I'm building a joystick which
uses potentiometers to encode joystick position, so I only need an x
and a y potentiometer. I saw some a/d converters with auto-calibrate
fetaures....would this be helpful in this type of application? Maybe
when the potentiometers wear down and give different resistances, the
auto-calibrate will help...? Thanks.

    Technically, you can connect a joystick to the BASIC Stamp by using the
    RCTIME function. Here's a link to an article that will show you how (Column #70

    from Nuts & Volts "Stamp Applications):

    yeah, but I read that that way of doing it has problems with
    temperature variations, since the basic stamp is going to be on an
    underwater vehicle, the temperature will probably change a lot.. Will
    an a/d converter IC have the same temperature problems?
