Geez guys! Sometimes I think I shouldn't ask a question about
anything that remotely could be considered 'sensitive'! I think we
have collectively lost control of ourselves. For you 'Politicos',
do a search under UAV-for a couple of grand up you can buy ready
made, sophisiticated, state of the art equipment, all the way up to a
ready-to-fly version! I will continue to try and get a code for my
simplistic approach to fly my d--- model airplane. For those not
familiar with the device, for $199, you can buy a factory tested
piece of equipment to do what I asked about. I dare not tell you the
name of the company though for fear some bad guy might read this. If
you email me, and know the secret word, and the secret handshake,
I'll tell you!

Besides the fact that the bad guys can very easily buy an off-the-shelf UAV
to do their dirty work, they almost certainly already have UAV's, if they
want to use them. Remember back around February or so when Powell spoke
before the UN Security Council? He gave conclusive evidence that the Iraqi
government had a very sophisticated UAV program, far more capable than
anything we've discussed here. If the Iraqis have (sorry, had :O) it, Al
Quaeda is sure to have it, too.
That said, I agree with Jon that it's probably not the greatest idea in
the world to start giving detailed information to people asking how to build
a UAV crop duster in broken English :O). Even so, there are a number of RPV
crop dusters commercially available for <$5,000, and I built a UAV crop
duster for about $1,500. It's not exactly a terribly complex or secretive
technology.
I think the bottom line is, let's take the obvious precautions, but
let's not start cowering in fear and crawling back into our shells, just
because there is a slight possibility the technologies we're considering
have potentially dangerous applications. BTW, how come nobody said anything
about that Ultrasonically-vaporized gas thread or the coin-op machine
thread? I think a coin-op gas bomb is just as or even more likely than an
anthrax-spreading crop duster.
As a pilot, I've just got to ask, why do aircraft = terrorism? The
Palestinians have been blowing themselves up in Israel for years without any
use of aircraft... :O)

something to think about) as our fears bubble to the surface.
In 2001 ( the worst year ever for terrorism ) approx 3800 people die from
terrorist acts.
In the United States > 40,000 die in automobile accidents.
Are we afraid of the wrong things, or have we learned to assume other are
acceptable.
And before you flame me, I go through airports almost every week and am glad
to believe I'm getting on a safe plane.
