Looking to make a homebrew trailer brake controller using a Basic
Stamp and an accelerometer, and some sort of analog current control
to the brake system. Anyone have any experience with this or ideas ??
Thanks.

Sorry, I can't help with the how-to, but I just installed a Hoppy
controller in my truck this weekend. I tried some other brand (don't
remember the brand) that didn't work. But what it DID do, was put feedback
into my radio when it was trying to brake the trailer. They Hoppy does the
same thing only MUCH less. This leads me to believe the controller is not
just sending voltage to the trailer, but I don't know what it IS
    sending. Anyone know?

I think that most brake controllers have a pendulum on a pot to sense
    deceleration.
For the price of a stamp alone you can go to U-Haul and get a certified
controller ($59 or so). The advantage to this is it has passed the engineering
tests for reliability. Do you have the proper equipment to calibrate the unit
    for
proper brake bias? If you wrap your snappy new $40,000 boat around a tree due
to brake failure, Big Brother may want to know lots more about your home brew
controller. (And the lawyers will have a field day if you hurt anyone.) Not
really worth the extra $50 to 'Roll your own'

I really like doing things with stamps, but there are just some things that
don't make good home brew projects.
