Transmitting voice over fiber

Hello,
I have a project where I need to send voice over fiber. It will
be similiar to radios other than it will be over fiber instead of
through the air. I was thinking about converting the audio to
digital and then transmitting it over fiber. I thought I might be
able to do this with a stamp. Any ideas or comments?
