Greetings!

SMS is 'Short Messaging Service' and is a handy way of sending messages
of up to 160 characters from one GSM phone to another.
The message is written and sent from one phone, then stored on a central
server until the recipients phone is ready to receive it. (May be stored
for up to a week if the recipient doesn't swith on his phone)
Later functionality includes sending and receiving long messages(split
into smaller 160char blocks and reassembled later), ring tones, logos,
screensavers, java games...

This service is the reason the Pager market has collapsed in Europe.
(Here in Norway they'll switch off the service on Sept. 1)

It is also what the Network providers get most of their revenue from...

Since you ask about it, can I assume that you're in America or somewhere
else where they use CDMA phones?

:-)
Trygve
