how do people use SOP(small outline package) , QPK,
LCC pakage type ICs for prototyping : as breadboards
are normally for DIPs . Can anyone pls explain/advise
as to how i can interface various SOP ICs that i need
to use with my STAMP which can easily be inserted in a
breadboard. Are they some pakcage convertors available
and if so how do they handle different pin counts

are talking about. Sorry I don't remember exactly what they were called or
I would give you a link. But you are on the right track.

I've never used them, but I noticed www.jameco.com carries just what you
are talking about. Sorry I don't remember exactly what they were called or
I would give you a link. But you are on the right track.

If you don't mind a little extra soldering you can get some snap apart
converters at:
www.beldynsys.com
I was looking for some converters also and found that a SINGLE SMD to
DIP converter for an SO8 can cost from 5-10 dollars (i needed about 5)
. At Bellin you can get 140 for $50! Of course "some assembly is
required" (you have to solder on the DIP pins, easy compared to
soldering on the SO8!). You can also get a snap apart board that has
a 8,14,16,18,20 pin selection.
jameco also carries some of the Bellin stuff also.
